  • Feb 2010 – May 2012: Chair, East Lothian Licensing Board
  • May 2011 – contested East Lothian against Iain Gray (then Labour Leader) for MSP seat; lost by 151 votes
  • May 2012 – Re-elected to North Berwick Coastal ward, East Lothian Council
  • Mar 2013 – Resigned from all party posts and as a member of the SNP
  • Feb 2017 – diagnosed with Macular Occlusion; registered as blind
  • May 2017 – retired from front-line politics (did not contest council election)
  • Jan 2014 – Sep 2021: fortnightly columnist in East Lothian Courier
  • Aug 2007 – present: provided daily Walk the Toun event at annual Fringe by the Sea
